" to continue Christ's work of proclaiming the Good News
and to answer to Christ's call to be his disciples" The Columban Mission Awareness Ministry strives to keep alive the Missionary Spirit of the Church throughout the world. The Columban Mission Awareness Ministry in the Philippines envisions a people more mature in the faith and more deeply committed to mission. We carry out this ministry in many ways, in various venues, and through the use of every media available. This mission awareness and mission animation campaign is carried out nationwide, dividing the archipelago into Districts and Areas, namely:
One of the major tools of our Mission Awareness Program is the Misyon magazine. Circulated worldwide, this magazine portrays the life, experiences and work of Filipino missionaries all over the world. Misyon is available by subscription. For more about Misyon magazine click here. Misyon is available through promoters. To learn more about becoming a promoter, click here. Misyon Magazine is also available through the mail both in the Philippines and throughout the world. For details on how to order the magazine click here. Misyon in Schools Misyon Magazine is used in many schools to help students better understand the Christian call to spread the Good News of Salvation throughout the world. We provide a Teachers’ Guide with discussion outlines as aids for classroom activities with students. For more about Misyon magazine in schools and the Teachers' Guide click here. Church Appeals A year-round program that’s organized in a bigger way during the Mission Month of October, the church appeal is another major undertaking in the Mission Awareness Ministry of the Columban Missionaries. With the permission and cooperation of local bishops and parish priests, Columbans visit churches during Sundays and speak to congregations about their own experiences of Mission, as they emphasize mission responsibility, and encourage people to support the work of missionaries. Wherever Columbans go on church appeal, Misyon goes too, always with a team of volunteers to help promote the magazine. Booths are set up outside the church doors where Misyon is displayed, and the volunteers are on hand to assist in direct sales or subscriptionsMission Awareness Module The Columban Missionaries have also developed Mission Awareness Modules for use in High Schools and Colleges. Each module contains three lesson plans designed for a 40-50 minute class. The goal of each Lesson Plan, besides introducing students to other people and other cultures, is to promote understanding and peace among people, cultures and religious beliefs. Later modules confront the questions of World Poverty and World Hunger. The lesson plans are accompanied by a video in CD format that helps the students visualize the lessons taught. The use of the Mission Awareness Modules is provided to High School and College Teachers free of charge as part of our Mission Awareness program. Please Contact:
Mission Awareness in Media In some areas of the country, the Mission Awareness Ministry has begun to expand the reach of its ministry through the use of Radio Advertising and Radio Programs. As these programs continue to bring the message of our missionary commitment to more and more people, we have also started to explore the possibilities in the Television Media in the near future. (Click for samples of the radio ads in print format, as they appear in Misyon magazine.) Much More Can Be Done Yes, there’s so much more that can be done for Mission Awareness, besides improving, expanding and building on what is already being done and on-going. To mention a few: on the development side, in terms of orientation and re-orientation on mission responsibility, of training and formation of mission animators; for the youth sector, by involving the youth in mission awareness activities; for communities, by campaigning for organized effort to support missionary activity. The need for co-workers and volunteers cannot be over-emphasized. And who comes to mind when wondering who might help? The youth leaders during their campus years in Manila, the former members of the Student Catholic Action (SCA); the alumni of the formerly Columban schools, imbued as they are with the missionary spirit they had known from their formative years; the friends and co-workers of the Columbans from the parishes, schools, organizations and institutions where they worked before. And to many others out there, Mission Awareness might just appeal to you as a way of doing service…by bringing the Good News to others. The Columban Mission Awareness Directory is just a “click” away. |
